Flashier Skills?
I think in GW2, there should be 'flashier' skills to choose from. I'm not saying the skills in GW are bad... I just don't really like their animations. For example, when I use Gale, I want to see the gust of wind hitting my opponent, not just them getting knocked down. And when I use Whirlwind, I want a Diablo like whirlwind, not just spiraling blue lines. o.o
Who agrees with me?

Pokemon? Sorry but I don't, as Alex said that would more then likely cause a ton of lag due to the amount of skills going off. There are some that have effects to them that you can see but not all of them. And to actually see attacks go out and hit your opponent sounds more like Pokemon then Diablo to me...

Well I like the idea... but only for Elites.
And maybe not like a whole huge animation, but louder more brutal sounds.
Like Lightning Surge, when it goes off everyone should know.

Ele effects seemed pretty cool and yeah it'd be cool to see them more detailed. I also hope that they put a bit more effort into other animations: I was hoping that the skill "Headbutt" would actually be a headbutt : (

If they get to "flashy" they will simply rape peoples computers. Although it would be cool to actually have meteors fall from the sky and lightning molesting some guy, It would just be too much lag.

Last thing we need is flashier skill effects. Have you seen those WoW videos on YouTube? It's like watching fireworks than watching a game.

Actauly lightning wouldnt take much at all.
And there already are meteors.
I think its hard to notice because of the sounds.
They got physdamage sounds done pretty well, but eles need more volume.

I was talking about having real lightning and meteors from the sky, assuming that's flashy enough. It would be a horrible addition.

Well, this is easy. Have an added effects layer in the game design, like the post processing effects currently. Button on, mega effects. Button off, current effects level.
That way you cater to both levels, making the game accessible for lower end users while still having enough flash to satisfy high end users.

Making low-resource flashy effects is an art.
See Phantasy Star Online.
REALLY low resource use, but REALLY cute effects.
More specularity do not always mean more resources.
On top of that, some effects do not really show necessary things like areas of effect. For example, Whirlpool has a little circle, and you can be outside of the circle and yet be affected by its AoE.

I was going to say, mesmers are the most picked-on class because nothing they do can be seen! I know, the skills have been nerfed to crap lately but even with most necromancer skills the effect is not very apparent, so players ignorant of how they work automatically assume that we do nothing.

Want snazzy special effects? play Crysis on max settings. GW has great graphics but it's not designed to be ultra-realistic.

Yeah, it seems that no one notices that white flahs enemies have around when you deal armor-ignoring damage to them.
Not even when they see it a lot under ursan blessing.

This could add an interesting aspect to PvP. Lag Spiking.
Oh wait, ANet already invented that term...
